Tips for Removing Stains (& More) To Avoid

Hairspray on ink? Salt in the washing machine? Most of us have heard quite a few tips (aka old tales) for removing stains. And, now, with the internet, free advice is rampant. While some of these tips are helpful, quite a few actually do more harm than good when it comes to fabric damage and stain removal. Here’s the truth from Flair.

Do Not Use These Stain Removal Tips
  • Hairspray to remove ink: When hairspray was primarily alcohol years ago, this tip may have worked. Today, since most hairspray products are alcohol-free, they will only leave a sticky mess on your garment. While some still use alcohol, depending on the fibers in your garment, the alcohol may weaken them and cause damage that shows up much later.
  • White wine to remove red wine stains: This tip may be popular because it’s convenient. If you have red wine, there is a good chance white wine is close by. However, white wine doesn’t really remove red wine stains. The best bet is to leave wine stains to the pros.
  • Salt prevents fading: Many people grew up learning that if you add salt to the washing machine, it prevents colors from running. While salt won’t make your garment worse, it also won’t prevent colors from fading or running. The only way to do this is to treat it as soon as it is manufactured. Once it has made its way to your closet, it is too late.

If you are not sure how to treat a stain, don’t. Flair Cleaners is here to help. We know the exact process to use for every type of stain so your garment comes back looking better than ever.
