November is National Sleep Comfort Month. So we turned to the experts at the National Sleep Foundation for some tips on how to improve your nightly sleep. Their top suggestion was to create a sleep-inducing bedroom. Though this might seem obvious, when comfort is overlooked, it can make getting a restful night’s sleep difficult.
Creating A Sleep-Inducing Bedroom
- Use a High-Performance Mattress and Pillow:
- A quality bed and pillow(s) are the most important factor in helping you be comfortable enough to relax. It also provides the proper support for the spine, helping you avoid aches and pains.
- Choose Quality Bedding & Keep It Freshly Cleaned:
- Your sheets, blankets, and comforter are the second most important factor in a good night’s rest. Choose bedding that feels comfortable to the touch and that will help maintain a comfortable temperature during the night. Change and clean your sheets weekly, and your comforter every two months for the best sleep.
- Avoid Light Disruption:
- Too much light can disrupt your sleep and circadian rhythm. Invest in blackout curtains or wear a sleep mask over your eyes. These block light so it won’t interfere with your rest.
- Pursue Peace and Quiet:
- Keep noise to a minimum. If you can’t eliminate noise, you may want to drown it out with a fan or white noise machine.
- Find the Right Temperature:
- If the temperature is too hot or too cold, it will disrupt your sleep. The ideal temperature varies for each individual. Research suggests, however, keeping the room around 65 degrees.
- Use Calming Scents:
- A light, calming scent helps ease you into sleep. Be careful if you use essential oils as they can create stains on your bedding.
Sleep well! And, don’t forget to bring your bedding to Flair for the freshest clean in town.
